Volodymyr Prokhorovych Sakhno – Head of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, the “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” award, Merited Transport Worker of Ukraine, Honored Educator of Ukraine.
The department was founded on February 15, 1945. From its foundation to 1976, it was named “Automobiles and Tractors”, and since 1976 – “Automobiles”. In 1962, the Department of Thermodynamics and Engines was separated from its composition. Since 1987, the Department of Automobiles and the Department of Thermodynamics and Engines were united under one name “Automobiles and Engines”. In 1991, the Department of Automobiles began functioning as a separate educational and scientific structural unit of National Transport University. It was headed by V.P. Sakhno, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.

- Efficiency of using alternative fuels in road transport
- Motor transport noise pollution reduction.
