Valeriy Havrylenko – Head of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of Transport Academy of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, member of the National Committee of Ukraine on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Merited Educatinalist of Ukraine
The department was founded on July 19, 2005 to train highly qualified information technology specialists for the transport industry of Ukraine.
At the time of the establishment of the department (as of September 1, 2005), only 9 teachers worked at it: the head of the department, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor Valery Havrylenko; candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Oleksandr Bezverkhy (currently – doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, professor of the department); candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Oleksandr Budya; candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Yevhenii Logachov (later – professor of the department, Distinguished Education of Ukraine, worked at the department until 2012); candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Ivan Tsukanov (worked at the department until 2015); senior teacher Lyubov Parokhnenko (currently – associate professor of the department, deputy head of the department, Excellence in Education of Ukraine); Serhiy Serechenok, senior teacher (later deputy head of the department, worked at the department until 2012); assistant Halyna Moskvychova (later senior lecturer, worked at the department until 2017); assistant Oleksiy Shumeiko (currently, associate professor).
Currently, the department employs 19 full-time teachers and 6 part-time teachers, including: eight professors, twelve associate professors, four senior teachers and two assistants.

The department is an administering one and trains:
- bachelors in the specialty “Computer Science” (under the educational program “Information control systems and technologies”);
- bachelors degrees in “Software Engineering” specialty (under the “Software Engineering” educational program);
- masters degrees in the specialty “Software Engineering” (under the educational program “Software Engineering”);
- masters degrees in the specialty “Computer Science” (under the educational program “Computer Science”).
The main research areas of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies are the following:
- Methods of system analysis and information technologies to ensure the development of transport systems;
- Decision support systems for managing technical, social and economic systems based on intelligent information processing;
- Mathematical methods, models and research technologies of complex systems.
