Meeting of Slavomir Novak, the Head of State Agency of Highways, with the faculty members and students of National Transport University
On March 22, 2019, National Transport University held a meeting of the head of State Agency of Highways (Ukravtodor) Slavomir Novak with faculty members and students. The Rector of the University Prof. Mykola Dmytrychenko conducted the meeting.
The director of DerzhdorNDI Artem Bezuhlyi, the Dean of the Faculty of Transport Construction Olena Slavinska, heads of departments and students attended the meeting.
Slavomir Novak conducted a lecture, which had the following topics: the analysis of the motorway industry of Ukraine and its comparison with other European countries; changes in control system; the ways to further develop the network of Ukrainian highways of general use in challenging economic conditions.
During the meeting, the participants were vividly discussing whether the occupation of road design engineer remained prestigious as well as decentralization of highways, financing of the industry and Road fund, construction of concession roads, new technologies of road construction and maintenance, traffic safety and smart transport systems, and lack of young skilled personnel in Ukravtodor, and in other enterprises of the industry.
The Head of the Department of Road Design and Property Management Prof. Vyacheslav Savenko, the Head of the Department of Airfields Prof. Ihor Hameliak, Prof. of the Department of Road Construction Materials and Chemistry Artur Onyschenko, Prof. of the Department of Bridges and Tunnels Konstiantyn Miedviediev, and the students: Akim Alimov (BMm-1-1), Mykhailo Vandzhyrak (TKmn-1-1), Bohdan Fedorenko (BA-4-1), Ivan Karpenko (MT-3-1) took part in the discussion.
The head of Ukravtodor assures the students, that Ukraine has an aim to reach European standards, and we have to construct and maintain highway networks of the country, which meet the modern requirements.
At the end of the meeting, Slavomir Novak visited the research and teaching laboratories and university centers, namely the Department of Road Design and Property Management; the Department of Road Design, Geodesy and Land Use; the Department of Road Building Machines (the center of NTU Zeppelin-Katerpillar); the Department of Vehicle Maintenance and Service (vehicle centers (Scania, Eurocar, EnergoTest, Sicam) and NTU-MOTUL Scientific and Educational Laboratory.
Particular attention was paid to the Scientific and Educational Laboratory of the Department of Road Design and Property Management, where within the framework of cooperation with Ukravtodor a unique experimental base of road construction with shallow drainage is presented.
For his part, the head of Ukravtodor plans to submit a number of initiatives to the Ministry of Education in order to change the situation with students enrollment for majors: Construction and Civil Engineering with specialization in Bridges and Road Construction which are currently in demand on the labor market of Ukraine.
